AEP's Dresden Plant Begins Commercial Operations
LCG, February 3, 2012-American Electric Power (AEP) announced Wednesday that commercial operation of the Dresden power plant has commenced. The 580-MW, combined-cycle facility is fueled by natural gas and is located near Dresden, Ohio. According to AEP, natural gas now accounts for 24 percent of AEP's total generating capacity.

SWEPCO Signs Wind Power Agreements Related to Turk Coal Plant
LCG, January 31, 2012--Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO), a unit of American Electric Power (AEP), announced last week that it executed long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) totaling 358.65 MW of renewable power from wind projects in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. Combined with a 49.2-MW PPA signed by the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority (OMPA), SWEPCO and its affiliates have now exceeded the 400-MW renewable energy commitment incorporated in the legal settlement made last month relate to the John W. Turk Jr. Power Plant.

TVA Adds to Its Wind Farm Portfolio
LCG, January 25, 2012--The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) announced last Friday that it agreed to purchase power from four wind farms in Kansas, Illinois and Iowa that have a combined capacity of 535 MW. Today, TVA has activated a wind energy portfolio totaling 950 MW, including five operating wind farms in the Midwest with a combined 542 wind turbines.
