AES Begins Building 730 Megawatter Near Dallas
LCG, Jan. 24, 2001AES Corp. said yesterday construction has begun on its $300 million Wolf Hollow power plant in Granbury, Texas, a 30-mile hoot and holler southwest of the Dallas-Forth Worth metroplex.AES said the 730 megawatt plant will supply 350 megawatts of its output under a 20-year agreement with an unnamed U.S. power marketer and the balance will be sold into the Texas wholesale electricity market.Natural gas fuel for Wolf Hollow will be supplied under a long-term contract with a major U.S. supplier, also unnamed. Water will be furnished under a 32-year agreement with the Brazos River Authority and an electrical interconnect agreement has been reached with TXU Corp.AES said the new plant should begin commercial operation in the summer of next year, which would be less than three years from idea to electricity. It takes up to seven years in California.Bob Johnston, president of AES Wolf Hollow, said "This power facility has been in developmentfor only a year and a half. The speed of our development program demonstrates the commitment ofthe State of Texas to encourage competition in its newly deregulated electricity market."
