LADWP Backlogged with Power Rebates

LCG, Feb. 15, 2002--Responses to a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power rebate program highlighted during last year's energy crisis are still being processed, the month before the program is due to end.

Steve Matsuda, a DWP assistant director said, "when we started we anticipated a good level of participation, with maybe a couple of thousand jobs for the year. Then with the energy crisis, there was a lot greater interest." The DWP received six times as many responses as it had anticipated.

The rebates, which were offered in return for customers' purchases of appliances that surpass energy efficiency standards, range from $600 to $1000. The rebates were supported and enhanced by state funding. Of 7,500 rebate applications that have been filed, 2,000 remain outstanding.

DWP's rebate offer will end in March, and may be succeeded by a different set of incentives.
