LCG, November 6, 2025--X-energy Reactor Company, LLC, (X-energy) and the U.S. Office of Nuclear Energy today announced the start of confirmatory irradiation testing at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) to qualify X-energy’s proprietary TRISO-X fuel pebbles for commercial use in the Xe-100 Small Modular Reactor (SMR). (TRISO stands for TRi-structural ISOtropic). This is the first time that TRISO-X fuel pebbles will undergo irradiation testing in a U.S. lab, which is a critical step in meeting requirements set forth by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for the commercial deployment of advanced reactors that will use the fuel.

LCG, October 28, 2025--NextEra Energy and Google yesterday announced two agreements that will help meet growing electricity demand from artificial intelligence (AI) with clean, reliable, 24/7 nuclear power and strengthen the nation's nuclear leadership. First, Google signed a new, 25-year agreement for power generated at the Duane Arnold Energy Center, Iowa's only nuclear power facility. The 601-MW boiling water reactor unit was shut down in 2020 and is expected to commence operations by the first quarter of 2029, pending regulatory approvals to restart the plant.

San Diego Avoids Widespread Blackout With Large-Scale Outage
LCG, Feb. 28, 2002--A backup transmission connection that was in use during repairs at the San Onofre substation failed yesterday, necessitating that San Diego Gas & Electric cut power to about 210,000 customers without warning.The failure took place at 10:42 a.m., and caused Southern California Edison's San Onofre Unit 3 to shut down according to design. The loss of 1,100 megawatts of capacity resulted in the California Independent System Operator ordering SDG&E to cut 300 megawatts of demand to head off a blackout in San Diego.All or part of the following communities were affected: Blossom Valley, Bonita, Calsbad, Chula Vista, City Heights, El Cajon, Escondido, Fletcher Hills, Highland Valley, La Mesa, Lakeside, Lemon Grove, Mission Hills, Mission Valley, downtown San Diego, National City, North Park, Paradise Hills, Poway, Ramona, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Del Rey, Rancho Santa Fe, San Marcos and Sweetwater. James P. Avery, SDG&E's senior vice president of electric transmission, said, "when the transmission connection at San Onofre was lost, that put pressure on the only other transmission line into San Diego, the Southwest Power Link. Once our proposed Valley-Rainbow Interconnect transmission line is built and placed in service, this type of incident wil not impact our customers."Lorie O'Donley, public information officer at the California Independent System Operator, said, "I couldn't tell you the last time something tripped off line since that is a pretty common occurrence. To lose a unit of 1,100, that is a pretty significant event."Power was restored to all affected customers by 11:35, and aside from expected inconveniences and lost productivity, backup power maintained operations at water treatment plants and hospital facilities.
