LCG, April 24, 2025--Exxon Mobil Corporation (ExxonMobil) announced yesterday an agreement with Calpine Corporation (Calpine) to transport and permanently store up to 2 million metric tons per annum (MTA) of CO2 from Calpine’s Baytown Energy Center, a natural gas-fired facility located near Houston, Texas. This is part of Calpine’s Baytown Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project that is designed to add CCS for the facility’s CO2 emissions. The Calpine facility could then provide a 24/7 supply of low-carbon electricity to the Texas grid plus steam to nearby industrial facilities.

LCG, April 21, 2025--NovaSource Power Services ("NovaSource") recently announced that it has partnered with Doral Renewables and has been selected as the Operations and Maintenance ("O&M") and Generator Operator ("GO") for the Mammoth Solar Project, one of the largest agrivoltaics facilities in the United States.

440-MW Plant Starting Up in Ontario
LCG, January 10, 2003--A cogeneration plant that will provide steam to several industrial facilities and electricity under contract and on the spot market should go online in Ontario by the middle of the month, according to TransAlta Corp.The 440-megawatt plant was expected to go online earlier, but was delayed by difficulties during construction. TransAlta intends to arrange further long-term contracts for the electric output, but is not rushing to do so. Some of the plant's capacity will continue to be made available through the spot market, in which prices have recently retreated, due to a cap that was imposed by the Ontario government on retail prices in December. The cap, which is intended to last until 2006 and was enacted in response to complaints from retail power buyers about rising prices, has created uncertainty among and criticism by developers."Government intervention on what's supposed to be a free market obviously concerns us," said spokeswoman Nadine Walz. "We're not putting another penny in (Ontario) until the uncertainty is figured out."The Sarnia plant, located at the southern edge of Ontario, is home to an existing 210-megawatt steam turbine which brings the entire output at the plant to about 650 megawatts.
