LCG, April 15, 2026--Suniva announced yesterday that it has entered agreements to bring a state-of-the-art 4.5 GW solar cell manufacturing facility to Laurens, South Carolina. The new facility, combined with Suniva’s existing facility at its headquarters in metro Atlanta, will bring the company’s total annual domestic solar cell manufacturing capacity to over 5.5 GW.

LCG, April 13, 2026--The EIA today released an "In-brief Analysis" of U.S. coal-fired generating capacity retirements in 2025. A highlight of the analysis is that, during 2025, the electric power sector retired 2.6 GW of coal-fired generating capacity at four power plants, which is (i) the least since 2010 and (ii) 5.9 GW less than the planned retirement of 8.5 GW at the beginning of 2025.

CA Assembly Passes 2006 Retail Choice Bill
LCG, June 5, 2003-The California Assembly passed Bill 428, which aims to permit electricity consumers to pick suppliers outside of their prescribed utilities.According to the bill, which passed 67 to zero, retail electricity customers using over 500 kilowatts would be allowed "Retail Choice" or direct access by 2006. This deregulatory action was initialized several years ago but was suspended in September 2001.The bill would also let residential customers buy power directly from renewable resources beginning in 2006. Keith Richman, a Republican assemblyman from Granada Hills, sponsored the bill.A similar but less detailed bill in the Senate also aims to give direct access. This measure, Bill 888, passed the Senate Appropriations Committee on Wednesday by a weaker, seven to five vote, and goes to the floor today.The Assembly bill will probably go to the California Senate Energy committee in less than 2 months.
