PSEG Opens Bethlehem Energy Center
LCG, July 8, 2005--PSEG Power celebrated yesterday at its opening ceremony for the Bethlehem Energy Center, located along the Hudson River, three miles south of Albany, New York. The new, gas-fired power plant is built on the site of the Albany Steam Station that was retired in February. The plant will commence full operations later this month. The Bethlehem Energy Center is a combined-cycle power plant with a generating capacity of 750 MW that is based upon the output from a GE Frame 7F system. Construction on the plant, acquired from Niagara Mohawk, began in mid-2002. The new plant will dramatically reduce air emissions relative to the old, 376 MW, oil-fired plant. The plant design includes a closed-loop cooling system that will significantly reduce water consumption from the Hudson River. These environmental benefits have attracted the support of a number of environmental organizations, such as the Natural Resources Defense Council.
