PG&E Begins NorCal Gas Pipeline Expansion

10/26/2001
LCG, Oct. 26, 2001--Pacific Gas & Electric Co. said yesterday it has started construction on an expansion of a pipeline that will add about 200 million cubic a day of much-needed natural gas to northernmost California.

A 14-mile stretch of new pipeline will connect with PG&E's 425-mile Line 401, which runs from the California border southeast of Klamath Falls, Ore., to the Panoche Valley, east of Pebble Beach. The expansion will be in the northeastern corner of the state.

PG&E said in a news release that the U.S. bankruptcy court in San Francisco approved the pipeline expansion, which will cost $39.5 million. The work is expected to be completed next September.

PG&E noted that the addition gas would be sufficient to fuel a 1,200 megawatt power plant.
