LCG, February 20, 2026--The EIA today issued an "in-brief analysis" that estimates U.S. power plant developers and operators plan to complete a record installation of 86 GW of new, utility-scale electric generating capacity that is connected to the U.S. power grid in 2026. Last year, 53 GW of new capacity was added to the grid, which was the largest capacity installation in a single year since 2002. Thus the estimate of 86 GW of new capacity in 2026 is a whopping 33 GW greater than the year prior. It should be noted that over 20 GW of the 86 GW of new capacity this year is estimated to be completed in December.

LCG Publishes 2021 Annual Outlook for Texas Electricity Market (ERCOT)
LCG, March 11, 2021 – LCG Consulting (LCG) has released its annual outlook of the ERCOT wholesale electricity market for 2021. The Outlook represents the operation of ERCOT wholesale electricity market under “business as usual" conditions, as is always the case in the Outlook. The report outlines future operation of the ERCOT nodal market, including Locational Marginal Prices (LMPs), load zone prices, hub prices and expected congestion.
However, this winter has brought anything but business as usual to Texas. Severe and persistent winter temperatures led to large-scale generators outage and natural gas curtailment, and subsequently widespread black outs and public outrage. Although ERCOT had returned to more normal operating conditions, the crisis is not yet over, and the Public Utilities Commission of Texas and legislature are actively considering changes to the system and market. If and when changes are enacted that may affect ERCOT, LCG will issue an addendum and perhaps analysis from further studies in Texas.
