LCG, Aug. 4, 2000---Bay Gas Storage Co. Ltd. said yesterday it signed a 15-year contract with Southern C. Services Inc. to provide up to 3.2 million Btus of salt-dome natural gas storage for a handful of Southern Co. subsidiaries.

The Energy South Inc. subsidiary will provide storage for Alabama Power Co., Georgia Power Co., Gulf Power Co., Mississippi Power Co. and Savannah Electric & Power Co., all subsidiaries of The Southern Co.

"The Gulf Coast is experiencing a dramatic surge in development of natural gas-powered electricgenerating plants," said Greg Welch, Bay Gas marketing director. "This new contract will quadruple the amount of natural gas storage Bay Gas provides for Southern Co. subsidiaries."

John Davis, chief executive of Energy South, said his Bay Gas unit is in the right place. "We're at the crossroads between the increased natural gas production coming onshore in the central Gulf Coast, and the growing market for that gas in the Southeastern United States," he said.
