The project will produce magnesium metal and alloys at what is said to be one of the world's richest magnesium salt deposits. The Republic of Congo is a portion of the former French Equatorial Africa. It is frequently confused with the Democratic Republic of the Congo which is the former Belgian Congo and was called Zaire for a time. Neither country can be considered politically stable.
