Sierra Pacific to Sell Nevada Plant to Wisconsin Utility

LCG, Oct. 30, 2000--Sierra Pacific Power Co. will sell its 525 megawatt Tracy-Pinon Power Station near Reno, Nev., to WPS Power Development Inc., a sister company of Wisconsin Public Service Co., the Nevada utility's parent holding company said Friday.

WPS will pay Sierra Pacific about $250 million for the Tracy power plant, Pinon Pine and other smaller generation facilities. Under the agreement, Sierra Pacific will have the right to buy energy and ancillary services from WPS for agreed upon prices subject to a collar from closing of the agreement through February 2003.

The site includes the Pinon Pine Integrated Coal Gasification Combined Cycle project co-fundedby the U.S. Department of Energy as part of the Clean Coal Technology Program, Sierra Pacific said.

The sale of the generation assets is a regulatory condition of the merger of Sierra Pacific and Nevada Power Co., which was completed last year. The company said it intends to complete the sale and transfer of its remaining gas-, oil- and coal-fired Nevada generation assets next year.

Sierra Pacific said the transaction, which is subject to approval and review by various regulatory agencies, is expected to close by next June.
