NextEra Energy and Google Collaborate on Accelerating Nuclear Power Deployment

LCG, October 28, 2025--NextEra Energy and Google yesterday announced two agreements that will help meet growing electricity demand from artificial intelligence (AI) with clean, reliable, 24/7 nuclear power and strengthen the nation's nuclear leadership. First, Google signed a new, 25-year agreement for power generated at the Duane Arnold Energy Center, Iowa's only nuclear power facility. The 601-MW boiling water reactor unit was shut down in 2020 and is expected to commence operations by the first quarter of 2029, pending regulatory approvals to restart the plant.

Duke Completes 100 Megawatt Expansion of Acajutla Plant

LCG, Nov. 29, 2000--Duke Energy Corp. said this morning that its Duke Energy International business unit has begun commercial operation of a $75 million expansion and modernization of its Acajutla power plant in El Salvador.

The plant remodeling included installation of an additional 100 megawatts of capacity, bringing the total output to 300 megawatts. And that boosts Duke's total power production in El Salvador to about 400 megawatts, around 15 percent of the country's total.
"The political and economic stability of El Salvador offer attractive opportunities for investors," observed Bruce Williamson, chief executive of the Duke unit. "The location of El Salvador affords gateways for integration of the energy sector to both the north and south, making it an ideal base for growth of our Central American operations."

El Salvador is on the Pacific coast of Central America, between Guatemala and Honduras. About the size of Massachusetts, it is the smallest of the Central American countries, and the only one without an Atlantic coastline.
