LCG, February 20, 2026--The EIA today issued an "in-brief analysis" that estimates U.S. power plant developers and operators plan to complete a record installation of 86 GW of new, utility-scale electric generating capacity that is connected to the U.S. power grid in 2026. Last year, 53 GW of new capacity was added to the grid, which was the largest capacity installation in a single year since 2002. Thus the estimate of 86 GW of new capacity in 2026 is a whopping 33 GW greater than the year prior. It should be noted that over 20 GW of the 86 GW of new capacity this year is estimated to be completed in December.

Germany to Resume Nuke Fuel Shipments to BNFL
LCG, Jan. 23, 2001Germany's Federal Office of Radiation Protection said yesterday it has authorized resumption of shipments of spent nuclear fuel to a reprocessing plant owned by British Nuclear Fuels Ltd.The shipment to BNFL's Sellafield plant were halted in May 1998 after containers were found to leak more than the allowable amount of radiation, and new shipments will be made on the condition that international safety standards are strictly adhered to, said Wolfram Knig, chief of the radiation agency.Shipments of spent fuel to a French reprocessing plant were resumed last September.Germany's anti-nuke activists, who have frequently tried to disrupt movement of radioactive material, see the resumption of the shipments to Sellafield, which makes useable nuclear fuel out of spent fuel, as a weakening of Germany's resolve to shut down all of its nuclear reactors.Fritz Kuhn, a member of the minority Greens party of Gerhard Schrder's coalition government, urged protesters not to interfere with plans to bring nuclear waste back to Germany from the French reprocessing plant in March.
