LCG, October 23, 2025--Google announced today a first-of-its kind agreement to support a natural gas-fired power plant with carbon capture and storage (CCS). The 400-MW Broadwing Energy power project, located in Decatur, Illinois, will capture and permanently store its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. By agreeing to buy most of the power it generates, Google is helping get this new, baseload power source built and connected to the regional grid that supports our data centers.

LCG, October 21, 2025--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today issued three final Underground Injection Control (UIC) Class VI permits to ExxonMobil for their Rose Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project located in Jefferson County, Texas. Under the Safe Drinking Water Act, these permits allow ExxonMobil to convert three existing test wells permitted by the state to carbon dioxide (CO2) storage injection wells for long-term storage.

Nine Mile Point 2 Shuts Down for Maintenance
LCG, Feb. 26, 2001Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. took its 1,148 megawatt Nine Mile Point 2 nuclear power plant near Oswego, N.Y. out of service yesterday for scheduled maintenance expected to last a week.None of the work involves the reactor itself, the company said. During the outage, improvements will be made to the electric transmission switchyard adjacent to the plant and to an indicator that shows the position of a flow control valve in the reactor's recirculation system.Niagara Mohawk operates Nine Mile Point 2 and owns 41 percent of the facility. Other owners are New York State Electric & Gas Corp. with 18 percent, Long island Power Authority with 18 percent, Rochester Gas & Electric Co. with 14 percent and Central Hudson Gas & Electric Co. with 9 percent.
