LCG, May 1, 2025--Holtec International (Holtec) announced the signing on April 29 of a strategic cooperation agreement with the State of Utah and Hi Tech Solutions, a leading nuclear services provider based in Kennewick, Washington, to collaborate in the deployment of Holtec's SMR-300s (small modular reactor) in Utah and the broader Mountain West region. Hi Tech will play a leading role in the project development and workforce training to support the rise of new nuclear power generation in the region.

LCG, April 29, 2025--Officials from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) today outlining the state’s plans to administer programs related to carbon storage wells, known as Class VI wells. The MOA signing is a required step in the RRC’s application to be granted authority to permit Class VI wells in the state of Texas. EPA is currently preparing a proposed approval of RRC’s primacy application.

Reliant Plans Two Plants on One Nevada Site
LCG, April 6, 2001Reliant Energy Power Generation said yesterday it would build a 310 megawatt peaking power plant and a 575 megawatt baseload facility on a single site near Primm, Nev., about 35 miles south of Las Vegas.Both plants at Reliant Energy Bighorn will be natural gas-fired and will meet or exceed all stateand federal requirements for air emissions, water quality, and noise. Between them, they will use in total only 220-acre-feet of water per year under an existing allocation."We are committed to Nevada, and we want to help provide the state with a balanced portfolio ofgeneration assets," said Joe Bob Perkins, president and chief operating officer of Reliant EnergyWholesale Group. "To date, the majority of proposed new generation will come from baseload units; however, a reliable and efficient generation system also must include generation dedicated to meeting peak demand," he added.The company has filed applications for and air permit and building permit and has asked the U.S. Bureau of Land Management for authorization to build 30 miles of transmission interconnection right-of-way, the majority of which will follow, or run adjacent to, existing Nevada Power Co. right-of-way.Reliant said it expects to start construction on both facilities this September, with a projected commercial operation date of June 1 of next year for the peaking facility and June 1, 2003, for the baseload plant.
