LCG, March 18, 2026--The EIA released a new "In-depth Analysis" of the potential impact of faster-than-expected near-term growth in data center power demand on power generation and wholesale prices on March 12. The analysis models the lower 48 states through 2027 and compares results to its base case scenario. Key takeaway from this sensitivity analysis is the potential increase in fossil fuels in some regions and potentially a significant increase in wholesale prices in ERCOT.

Florida Gives Preliminary Okay to Southern Co. Orlando Plant
LCG, May 4, 2001The Southern Co. said yesterday that the Florida Public Service Commission had given it preliminary approval for a planned 633 megawatt power project in Orlando.Southern is teaming on the project with the Orlando Public Utilities Commission, operator of the city's municipal utility, the Kissimee Utility Authority and the Florida Municipal Power Agency.The plant will be built at the Orlando muni's Curtis H. Stanton Energy Center, Southern said, and construction could begin as early as this fall if remaining approvals are received.The plant still needs approval from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the state siting committee, which consists of the governor and his cabinet.
