LCG, May 1, 2025--Holtec International (Holtec) announced the signing on April 29 of a strategic cooperation agreement with the State of Utah and Hi Tech Solutions, a leading nuclear services provider based in Kennewick, Washington, to collaborate in the deployment of Holtec's SMR-300s (small modular reactor) in Utah and the broader Mountain West region. Hi Tech will play a leading role in the project development and workforce training to support the rise of new nuclear power generation in the region.

LCG, April 29, 2025--Officials from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) today outlining the state’s plans to administer programs related to carbon storage wells, known as Class VI wells. The MOA signing is a required step in the RRC’s application to be granted authority to permit Class VI wells in the state of Texas. EPA is currently preparing a proposed approval of RRC’s primacy application.

Jeffrey Cruz has been assigned by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as resident inspector at Wolf Creek Generation Station, a nuclear power plant near Burlington, Kans. and Richard W. Deese was appointed resident inspector at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station near Port Gibson, Miss. Cruz joined the NRC in 1995 as a radiation specialist and became a senior health physicist in 1999. Deese, who worked as a shipyard engineering resident in Newport News, Va., during the refueling, construction and acceptance testing of nuclear powered aircraft carriers, most recently was a reactor inspector in the NRC's engineering and maintenance branch of the Division of Reactor Safety.Curtis Hebert, chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, said he will leave his post at the end of this month. Hebert's replacement has not been named but is widely expected to be Commissioner Pat Wood III, a former chairman of the Texas Public Utility Commission.Kevin P. Madden will become executive vice president for legal, regulatory and governmental strategy of AGL Resources Inc., parent company of Atlanta Gas Light Co. He will join AGL Resources from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission where he serves as general counsel.Karen R. Osar has been elected a director of AGL Resources Inc., parent company of Atlanta Gas Light Co. She is is senior vice president and chief financial officer ofWestvaco Corp., a global manufacturer of packaging, paper and specialty chemicals.Mary E. Pugh has been elected a director of Cascade Natural Gas Corp., a natural gas distribution company serving 195,000 customers in Washington and Oregon. Pugh is founder, president, and chief investment officer of Pugh Capital Management, a Seattle-based fixed income money management company.James A. Rubright has been elected a director of AGL Resources Inc., parent company of Atlanta Gas Light Co. He is chairman and chief executive officer of Rock-Tenn Co., a manufacturer of packaging and recycled paperboard products.Dan Streek has been named interim chief financial officer of utility holding company UtiliCorp United Inc., effective August 20, replacing Peter Lowe, who will return to Australia, where he will become UtiliCorp's managing director for Australia and New Zealand. Streek is also shief financial officer of UtiliCorp's power marketing unit Aquila Inc.Charlie Zeigler, president and chief operating officer of PSNC Energy (the former Public Service Co. of North Carolina which changed its name when taken over by Scana Corp.), has chosen to take early retirement from Scana effective September 28. Scana senior vice president Kevin Marsh will assume overall responsibility for PSNC and Scana Energy Marketing Inc. in addition to continuing in his role as chief financial officer.
