ERCOT Announces Organizational Changes to Promote Grid Reliability, Rapid Demand Growth, and Innovation

LCG, December 12, 2025--Today, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, Inc. (ERCOT) announced strategic organizational changes designed to accelerate innovation, strengthen grid reliability, and support the unprecedented growth in the demand for electricity across Texas. To meet these objectives, ERCOT created two new organizations: Interconnection and Grid Analysis, and Enterprise Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The two organizations will formally launch in January 2026.

NextEra Energy Resources and Basin Electric Power Cooperative Announce MOU to Develop 1,450-MW Natural Gas-fired Power Plant in North Dakota

LCG, December 8, 2025--Basin Electric Power Cooperative (Basin Electric) and NextEra Energy Resources, LLC (NextEra) today announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore the joint development of the River Run Energy Center, a new combined-cycle natural gas-fueled generation facility in Basin Electric's North Dakota service territory. The proposed facility will have a planned capacity of approximately 1,450 MW.

Wisconsin Sets Route for New Transmission Line

LCG, Oct. 25, 2001--The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin said yesterday it has issued the details and route specifics of the 220-mile electric transmission line from Wausau to Duluth. The PSCW had approved the line on August 17.

The new transmission line, backed both by Wisconsin utilities and state officials as necessary to relieve annual summer power shortages by making it possible to import electricity from states to the west and from Canada, had been opposed by "not in my backyard" interests.

The commission, in its order, managed to squeeze about 83 percent of the new line into existing rights-of-way, minimizing the impact on landowners in northern Wisconsin.

The new transmission line is a joint venture between Wisconsin Public Service Corp. and Minnesota Power Co. With the PSCW's written final order, the utilities will proceed with the project and begin the engineering and geographical surveys that need to be completed before 2002 when construction is expected to begin which is expected to take about three years.

"We are pleased the final order has been issued," said Don Shippar, chief operating officer of Minnesota Power. "We hope this project can be an example to show how communities, utilities and private landowners in Wisconsin and Minnesota can work together to solve the electric reliability problem in this region."

Patrick Schrickel, president and chief operating officer of Wisconsin Public Service, attempted to put landowners at ease. "We intend to work fairly with any private and public land owners who may require easements on their property," he said. "It's a negotiated process which is guided by state law."
