Alliant Energy Submits Plans to Iowa Utilities Commission for the Addition of 1,000 MW of Wind Capacity

LCG, July 2, 2025--Alliant Energy today announced plans to add up to 1,000 MW of wind energy generating capacity in Iowa to meet demand and ensure reliable, affordable energy for its customers. The plans are included in a filing with the Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC), and the company anticipates a decision from the IUC in the first quarter of 2026.

Fairfield, Texas Plant Operating this Month

LCG, Feb. 11, 2002--The Freestone Energy power plant, which will be rated at 1,052 megawatts, is scheduled to begin operations in Fairfield, Texas this month.

The plant's full capacity will be ready by March, according to developer Calpine Corporation. Of ten power plants owned by Calpine in Texas, the Freestone plant will be the largest. Its design incorporates four GE 7FA combustion turbines, as well as six steam generators. The combined-cycle plant has been designed and undergone engineering work by Zachary Construction Corporation.

Calpine is developing three other plants in Texas, which should be online within two years.
