Duke Energy Submits Early Site Permit Application to NRC for New Nuclear Reactors in North Carolina

LCG, December 30, 2025--Duke Energy announced today its submission of an early site permit (ESP) application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The site is near the Belews Creek Steam Station in Stokes County, North Carolina. The submittal follows two years of work at the site, and the announcement states that the submittal is part of Duke Energy's strategic, on-going commitment to evaluate new nuclear generation options to reliably meet the growing electricity needs of its customers while reducing costs and risks.

The NRC Issues Summary of 2025 Successes

LCG, December 29, 2025--The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) today issued a summary of its 2025 accomplishments to highlight its commitment to "enabling the safe and secure use of civilian nuclear energy and radioactive materials through efficient and reliable licensing, oversight, and regulation to benefit society and the environment."

Calpine has announced the promotion of Bill Berilgen to president, Calpine Natural Gas Company (CNGC). Berilgen, also a senior vice president, will manage the company's North American oil and gas assets. Berilgen has managed the company's natural gas subsidiary since Calpine acquired Sheridan Energy in 1999.

Beth S. Perlman will join Constellation Energy Group as vice president and chief information officer. Prior to her appointment, Perlman had been vice president of Enron Wholesale Trading Technology. She began her career with Enron in 1995 as Director, Risk Management Administration.

Jean H. Gibson will replace Frank Boyle as chief financial officer of Central Vermont Public Services. She has most recently served as vice president of the Exelon Corporation.

Hanover Compressor has appointed Mark S. Berg Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Berg has acted as executive vice president and general counsel for American General Corporation over the last five years.

Richard T. Ashbeck has been promoted to the position of vice president-treasurer of energy and communications company Black Hills Corporation. Ashbeck, who joined Black Hills in July 2000, had previously been employed as Chief Financial Officer by Indeck Capital, Inc., an independent power company which was later acquired by Black Hills.
