CA Governor Signs Inspection Bill
LCG, April 29, 2002-California passed a bill permitting state regulators to inspect generators that have been shut down for maintenance. Governor Gray Davis signed the bill into law on Friday after it was approved by the California Senate.Brought in by San Francisco's John Burton-D, the bill calls for a new committee responsible for setting operation and maintenance standards for California plants. Governor Davis had reportedly called for a bill of this type after state inspectors were not allowed to visit plants shut down during California's energy crisis. Many companies contend that their plants were shut down legitimately and that generators ran at unprecedented levels during the crisis, while others in industry allege that shutdowns were deliberate.
