Duke Suspends Overtime Work on Nevada Plant

LCG, September 5, 2002--Duke Energy will stop overtime and weekend labor on the Moapa plant, the third Duke plant to see slowed construction in two months.

Poor market conditions have slowed construction nationwide, and Duke has been considering selling unfinished plants or simply delaying construction. Construction on the Duke-owned 608-megawatt Deming plant in New Mexico and the 620-megawatt Grays Harbor plant in Washington state was suspended last month.

Moapa, which will have 1,222 megawatts of capacity when completed, was originally to begin operations by the summer of 2003 along with the Deming and Grays Harbor plants, but market conditions will have the final say in when the three plants will actually come on line.
