FERC Allows Access to Some Enron-Related Data

LCG, January 14, 2003FERC will allow California officials to request the release of some information regarding a case against Enron.

Previously, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission refused to share information about the Enron investigation with public officials.

Last year FERC began an investigation of the Enron Corporation when memos were released referring to the companys possibly intentionally manipulative market practices.

Currently various legal cases are underway regarding the manipulation of Western energy markets. The judge in one lawsuit aimed particularly at Enron requested a six month postponement because of a delay in the Justice Departments release of evidence it holds regarding Enron.

According to a Reuters report, FERC announced that, The commission will permit California parties to seek through data requests served on the sellers certain documents provided to the commission and its staff, although the commission will not release depositions.

FERC will give 100 additional days for the submission of new evidence, and the commission wants to finish the investigation by the end of March.
