LCG, October 23, 2025--Google announced today a first-of-its kind agreement to support a natural gas-fired power plant with carbon capture and storage (CCS). The 400-MW Broadwing Energy power project, located in Decatur, Illinois, will capture and permanently store its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. By agreeing to buy most of the power it generates, Google is helping get this new, baseload power source built and connected to the regional grid that supports our data centers.

LCG, October 21, 2025--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today issued three final Underground Injection Control (UIC) Class VI permits to ExxonMobil for their Rose Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project located in Jefferson County, Texas. Under the Safe Drinking Water Act, these permits allow ExxonMobil to convert three existing test wells permitted by the state to carbon dioxide (CO2) storage injection wells for long-term storage.

Reliant Resources to Sell Off European Assets at Loss
LCG, February 20, 2003Reliant Resources Inc. will sell energy-related European assets to Nuon at a loss of $900 million.The Netherlands Nuon will purchase the assets for roughly $1.3 billion, in part comprised of $1.2 billion in cash receipts. $0.5 billion of the reportedly $0.9 billion loss is associated with goodwill impairment.Reliant will pay its $600 million in euro debt that matures this March, but Nuon will take on debt that matures this July. Reliant has 3,500 megawatts in electric capacity in the Netherlands as well as in commercial energy holdings.The agreement will still require Dutch and German antitrust approval and is expected to be completed in half a year.Reliant is based in Houston, Texas.
