NYMEX to Introduce PJM Futures contracts

LCG, Feb. 21, 2003--Incentives in the form of up to $200,000 in reimbursement of costs will be offered by the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) to induce floor brokers to trade Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland (PJM) electricity futures contracts.

The futures are to be traded shortly, and will take the form of monthly, weekly, and daily contracts for PJM's western hub. As many as 100 two-year permits will be made available to brokers. As long as the brokers meet certain volume requirements, they can be reimbursed for salary and benefits of floor brokers, telephone and other such costs.

The president of the NYMEX, J. Robert Collins, stated, "This is yet another example of the Exchange's innovative approach to expanding its participant base and establishing liquidity in new markets. It provides an excellent opportunity to become involved in the early stages of a contract that we anticipate will be as successful as our other major energy markets."
