LCG, April 24, 2025--Exxon Mobil Corporation (ExxonMobil) announced yesterday an agreement with Calpine Corporation (Calpine) to transport and permanently store up to 2 million metric tons per annum (MTA) of CO2 from Calpine’s Baytown Energy Center, a natural gas-fired facility located near Houston, Texas. This is part of Calpine’s Baytown Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project that is designed to add CCS for the facility’s CO2 emissions. "Stop Work" Order at Yucca Said Reason for Examiners' Dismissal
LCG, Apr 28, 2003--According to an examiner assigned to the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste disposal project, he and two other colleagues were reassigned to non-audit duties following recommendations they made regarding quality assurance procedures used by Bechtel, the main contractor on the project.A spokesman for the Department of Energy (DOE) told reporters last week that the procedures being used by Bechtel were being examined, but that this process was not holding up the project. A "stop work" order was issued by the DOE, which, according to sources contacted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, does not qualify as routine, and may have been linked to ongoing quality control issues the department has grappled with from the early stages of the Yucca Mountain project.Don Harris, of Navarro Research and Engineering Inc., said that critical statements he made about the Department of Energy at a meeting in mid-March related to the stop work order were given as the reason for his dismissal. However, he said, on the 25th, he was informed by the top manager for Navarro at Yucca that he was being put back in his audit and examination role. The Review-Journal said that several additional sources confirmed that George Harper had been removed from his duties following the issuance of the order. The manager in charge of the team for surveillance, Lester Wagner, was said to have been influenced to take another position. Neither of the Navarro employees could be contacted, nor could a representative from Navarro's headquarters.
