Northern Illinois to Become Part of PJM in November

LCG, July 10, 2003--The planned October start date for Commonwealth Edison's participation in the wholesale electric power market as part of the Pennsylvania-Jersey-Maryland Interconnection has been pushed to November, according to the grid manager.

Stakesholder input led to the decision to delay the start, said Richard A. Wodyka, PJM's senior vice president. "PJM prides itself on an open, colaborative stakeholder process. Our members and state commissions have requested added time for participant readiness and we are being responsive to this feedback," Wodyka said.

PJM started to handle administrative aspects of transmission services for the part of ComEd's service territory within Illinois. PJM also was permitted to take control of ComEd's transmission assets by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. In February, it became responsible for reliability measures in the Illinois ComEd service area.
