Calpine and ExxonMobil Sign CO2 Transportation and Storage Agreement for CCS Project in Texas

LCG, April 24, 2025--Exxon Mobil Corporation (ExxonMobil) announced yesterday an agreement with Calpine Corporation (Calpine) to transport and permanently store up to 2 million metric tons per annum (MTA) of CO2 from Calpine’s Baytown Energy Center, a natural gas-fired facility located near Houston, Texas. This is part of Calpine’s Baytown Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project that is designed to add CCS for the facility’s CO2 emissions. 160-MW Texas Wind Farm Planned

LCG, July 24, 2003--The largest wind farm yet proposed in Texas has been announced by TXU Energy, a subsidiary of TXU Corp., and Green Mountain Energy, and is expected to be completed in the town of Brazos by the end of December 2003.

"As the largest purchaser of wind power in Texas, TXU Energy is pleased to help make this transaction a reality," TXU Energy's president of portfolio management, VJ Horgan, said. Developers for the project are Cielo Wind Power, LLC, based in Austin, and Orion Energy LLC, of Oakland, Ca. Shell WindEnergy, which jointly owns the project with Padoma Resources I, Inc., will operate the Green Mountain Wind Energy Farm. Output will be purchased and marketed by Green Mountain, of Austin, and by TXU Energy.

The installation will provide power to 30,000 average Texas homes each year, generated from 160 Mitsubishi generators. The turbines will each be about 230 tall, and according to the purchasers, prevent the same amount of CO2 each year that is caused by all cars and SUVs in Houston in most weeks.
