Senators, State Attorneys General Oppose EPA Mercury Proposal
LCG, Apr. 2, 2004--A proposal by the Environmental Protection Agency for regulating mercury emissions through a cap-and-trade program was the focus of letters sent to the agency by forty-five Senators and 10 state attorneys general Thursday, requesting that the proposal be replaced by a stricter plan. The letters, which were sent separately, asserted that the plan would constitute violation of the Clean Air Act, and provide insufficient protection for children.
