Recovery Efforts for Texas Power Outage Continue

LCG, June 7, 2004--An unprecedented set of power outages that affected 500,000 customers of TXU Electric Delivery, following two severe storms early last week, persisted to a lesser extent in some areas through the weekend.

By Friday, roughly 75 per cent of customers who had experienced outages had had service restored, according to TXU Electric Delivery's chairman and chief executive, Tom Baker. The first storm was of hurrice force and hit on Tuesday, June 1, while a second series of storms followed the next day.

In the course of the work by TXU crews and by crews from nine states outside Texas, 40,000 damaged, fallen or broken trees were removed, 23 substations were restored, 550 transmission and distribution poles were installed again, and 4,000 wires that were reported to have been downed were addressed.

"I appreciate the patience of those who are without electric service following this devastating series of storms," Baker said. TXU Electric Delivery is a subsidiary of TXU Corp.
