TVA, Midwest ISO and PJM Act to Improve Coordination of Grid

LCG, April 26, 2005--The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator (Midwest ISO), and PJM Interconnection (PJM) have agreed to enhance the management, operation and facility planning of their combined electric transmission grid. The three organizations operate a grid that encompasses transmission lines in all or parts of 25 states, the District of Columbia, and the Canadian province of Manitoba, with a combined peak load of 264,000 MW.

Late last week, the three organizations executed a Joint Reliability Coordination Agreement (JCRA) to improve congestion relief and the management of the reliability of seams between the wholesale electricity markets of the Midwest ISO, PJM and TVA's service territory. To achieve this objective, the organizations will share key operating information and extensive planning data to ensure that all three parties have the best information possible to support operations and to analyze and model the integrated operations of the combined grid.

PJM, TVA and the Midwest ISO have also agreed to schedule joint transmission planning sessions to further reliability goals and economic facility expansions and upgrades across their integrated grid.
