LCG, October 23, 2025--Google announced today a first-of-its kind agreement to support a natural gas-fired power plant with carbon capture and storage (CCS). The 400-MW Broadwing Energy power project, located in Decatur, Illinois, will capture and permanently store its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. By agreeing to buy most of the power it generates, Google is helping get this new, baseload power source built and connected to the regional grid that supports our data centers.

LCG, October 21, 2025--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today issued three final Underground Injection Control (UIC) Class VI permits to ExxonMobil for their Rose Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project located in Jefferson County, Texas. Under the Safe Drinking Water Act, these permits allow ExxonMobil to convert three existing test wells permitted by the state to carbon dioxide (CO2) storage injection wells for long-term storage.

Sierra Pacific Resources Plans New Coal-fired Generation in Nevada
LCG, January 10, 2006--Sierra Pacific Resources announced yesterday that it plans to develop and install two 750-MW, coal-fired power generating units in eastern Nevada. The overall plan includes a new, 250-mile long transmission line that would connect Nevada's northern and southern regions. The combined project cost for the two units and the transmission line is estimated to exceed $3 billion.The new units, to be located in White Pine County, would use traditional, pulverized coal technology, together with state-of-the-art emission control technologies. The first unit is planned to commence service in 2011, with operation of the second unit to follow within three years. A subsequent expansion of the energy complex is planned that would consist of two, 500-MW units that incorporate coal gasification technology. If completed, the total electric generating capacity of the station would be approximately 2,500 MW.Sierra Pacific Resources' principal subsidiaries are Nevada Power Company, the electric utility serving much of southern Nevada, and Sierra Pacific Power Company, which serves most of northern Nevada, together with customers in California in the vicinity of Lake Tahoe.
