MidAmerican Expands Investments in Iowa Wind Farms
LCG, July 26, 2006--MidAmerican Energy announced yesterday that construction of a 123-MW wind farm, located in Pocahontas County, Iowa, is scheduled to begin later this year and to be completed by the end of 2007. EnXco Development Corporation will develop and build the wind farm.
The wind farm will be comprised of 82, 1.5-MW turbines manufactured by GE Energy. The announcement is further evidence of MidAmerican's growing investment in wind energy.
The Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) approved MidAmerican's plan to build up to 545 MW of wind-powered generation in Iowa by the end of 2007. In April of this year, MidAmerican announced plans for a 99-MW wind farm in Crawford and Carroll counties in west central Iowa. The project, which again will rely on GE Energy 1.5-MW turbines, is under construction and is scheduled to commence operations by the end of 2006.
In December of last year, MidAmerican completed the installation of 257 wind turbines located at two wind farm projects in northwest and north central Iowa. The combined electric generating capacity of those two projects is 360.5 MW.
