Enel Orders Turbines for Kansas Project
LCG, January 3, 2007--Enel North America has ordered 56 wind turbine units for the Smoky Hills Wind Farm in Kansas. Vesta, which made the announcement yesterday, will manufacture the 1.8-MW turbines and plans to deliver, install and commission the equipment in the third quarter of 2007.
The Smoky Hills Wind Farm will be constructed about 25 miles west of Salina, Kansas. The project will be completed in phases, with the initial, 100-MW phase targeted for completion by the end of this year. The planned electric generating capacity of the entire project is 250 MW.
The wind farm is being developed by TradeWind Energy, LLC, which formed a joint development agreement with Enel North America in September of 2006. On December 14, 2006, Sunflower Electric Power Corp., wholesale power supplier, announced its agreement to purchase 50.4 MW of wind energy from TradeWind's Smoky Hills Wind Farm.
