LCG, December 12, 2025--Today, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, Inc. (ERCOT) announced strategic organizational changes designed to accelerate innovation, strengthen grid reliability, and support the unprecedented growth in the demand for electricity across Texas. To meet these objectives, ERCOT created two new organizations: Interconnection and Grid Analysis, and Enterprise Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The two organizations will formally launch in January 2026.

LCG, December 8, 2025--Basin Electric Power Cooperative (Basin Electric) and NextEra Energy Resources, LLC (NextEra) today announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore the joint development of the River Run Energy Center, a new combined-cycle natural gas-fueled generation facility in Basin Electric's North Dakota service territory. The proposed facility will have a planned capacity of approximately 1,450 MW.

SONAT and Southern Move Forward with Pipeline Expansion Plans
LCG, February 7, 2007--Southern Natural Gas (SNG), a subsidiary of El Paso Corporation, announced Monday that it has reached an agreement with Southern Company Services, a Southern Company affiliate, to expand SNG's system capacity by up to 367 MMcf/day to serve a proposed, gas-fired power plant near Atlanta, Georgia. The expansion will receive gas supplies from both north Louisiana and SNG's Elba Island LNG facility.
The pipeline expansion project will be built in phases, with the initial operational date to occur before December 1, 2010. The estimated cost of the pipeline project is $360 million. SNG plans to submit a certificate application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) early next year.
According to the announcement, Southern Company Services will execute a 15-year firm transportation agreement with SNG to serve the proposed electric generating station from a new delivery point on SNG's pipeline system, and the location is to be determined by Southern Company Services no later than December 1, 2007.
In November of last year, Georgia Power, another subsidiary of Southern Company, announced its plan to replace its coal-fueled Plant Jack McDonough, located near Atlanta, Georgia, with an 800-MW, natural gas-fired unit. The replacement with combined-cycle units would substitute relatively clean-burning natural gas for coal and avoid the substantial additional investment by Georgia Power in new emission control equipment for the aging coal-fired units at the site.
Georgia Power previously proposed adding two other gas-fired units at the site. In total, 2,400 MW of gas-fired capacity is planned at the site. Assuming timely approval of the proposed new generating facilities, Georgia Power expects construction to begin in 2008 and the new units to commence operations in late 2010, with the entire project complete by 2012.
