X-energy Commences First Irradiation Tests of Advanced TRISO-X Nuclear Fuel at Idaho National Laboratory

LCG, November 6, 2025--X-energy Reactor Company, LLC, (X-energy) and the U.S. Office of Nuclear Energy today announced the start of confirmatory irradiation testing at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) to qualify X-energy’s proprietary TRISO-X fuel pebbles for commercial use in the Xe-100 Small Modular Reactor (SMR). (TRISO stands for TRi-structural ISOtropic). This is the first time that TRISO-X fuel pebbles will undergo irradiation testing in a U.S. lab, which is a critical step in meeting requirements set forth by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for the commercial deployment of advanced reactors that will use the fuel.

NextEra Energy and Google Collaborate on Accelerating Nuclear Power Deployment

LCG, October 28, 2025--NextEra Energy and Google yesterday announced two agreements that will help meet growing electricity demand from artificial intelligence (AI) with clean, reliable, 24/7 nuclear power and strengthen the nation's nuclear leadership. First, Google signed a new, 25-year agreement for power generated at the Duane Arnold Energy Center, Iowa's only nuclear power facility. Wind Turbine Manufacturers Stress Need for Congress to Extend the PTC

LCG, April 23, 2008--Representatives of four of the largest wind turbine manufacturers spoke Monday at a meeting organized by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) to highlight the need for Congress to proceed rapidly and extend the renewable energy production tax credit (PTC).

Historically, Congress has frequently acted at the last minute to extend the PTC or even let the PTC lapse in some years. The impact has been a boom-bust cycle for the wind industry in the U.S.

Representatives of GE Energy, Gamesa, Siemens and Vestas outlined their justification for quick action by Congress to extend the PTC, which is now set to expire December 31, 2008. The PTC provides an incentive of approximately two cents per kWh generated to renewable energy facilities, including wind, as well as closed-loop biomass, solar, and geothermal facilities. The incentive is available for a period of up to ten years, given the facility commences operation prior the expiration of the PTC.

Representatives of the wind turbine manufacturers touted the growing wind industry in the U.S. and the need to support it. According to the press release, the wind energy industry has created 45,000 jobs for Americans, including 10,000 new jobs in 2007. Furthermore in 2007, six new wind manufacturing plants opened in 2007, and plans for eight more were announced.

With regards to actual installation of renewable energy facilities, approximately 5,200 MW of wind generation was installed last year, setting a new record. At the end of 2007, the total installed capacity in the U.S. was 16,818 MW.
