LCG, July 10, 2025--The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) accepted a construction permit application for review from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to build one of the nation’s first small modular reactors (SMR). TVA submitted its application in late May to use GE Vernova Hitachi’s BWRX-300 design and to install the advanced nuclear plant at its Clinch River site near Oak Ridge, Tennessee. TVA's application is the first in the U.S. that uses GE Vernova Hitachi’s BWRX-300 design.

Shear Wind Pursues 1,000 MW of Wind Generation in New Brunswick
LCG, August 14, 2008--Shear Wind, Inc. (Shear Wind) announced Monday two new wind projects located in the province of New Brunswick that have a combined, potential electric generating capacity of over 1,000 MW. The targeted power markets are in New Brunswick and New England.
The two projects are Benjamin River and Mann Siding, which together cover over 100,000 acres of land. Both projects are expected to have an initial phase with a design capacity of 150 MW. Both projects are estimated to be capable of expansion to 500 MW of generating capacity.
The Mann Siding project is located in northwestern New Brunswick and has received an initial confirmation of interconnection for 150 MW. Shear Wind has submitted applications for the in-depth System Impact Study (SIS) associated with the initial phases for both projects.
Shear Wind stated that it is pursing the collection and evaluation of wind data at both sites, as well as proceeding to obtain necessary studies and permitting to allow for these sites to be development-ready by the fourth quarter of next year.
Shear Wind was founded in 2005 to develop renewable energy in Canada, and it is headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The company has a two wind projects in stages of final development: the 60-MW Glen Dhu Wind Park in Nova Scotia, and the 100-MW Glenridge Wind Park in eastern Alberta.
