LCG, December 18, 2025--RWE and Indiana Michigan Power Company (I&M), an American Electric Power (AEP) company, today announced their partnering to provide new wind power generation capacity online to meet Indiana’s growing electricity demand. The companies signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the total output from RWE’s 200 MW Prairie Creek wind project in Blackford County, Indiana. I&M will purchase electricity from the wind project, which will further diversify its portfolio and be consistent with its all-of-the-above strategy to secure generation for its rapidly growing electricity demand.

LCG, December 16, 2025--The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) announced today that it has renewed the operating licenses of Constellation LLC’s Clinton Unit 1 in Clinton, Illinois, and Dresden Units 2 and 3, near Morris, Illinois, for an additional 20 years beyond the current expiration dates. The combined capacity of these three, Illinois-based nuclear units is 2,925 MW, and the operating license extension will enable the units to generate carbon-free power through about 2050.

Oglethorpe Power Announces Plans for Biomass Power Plants in Georgia
LCG, September 19, 2008--Oglethorpe Power Corporation (OPC) yesterday announced plans to construct as many as three, 100-MW power plants that would be fueled by woody biomass. The first two facilities are scheduled to commence operations in 2014 and 2015, with a possible third plant coming on-line in 2015.
The design for the projects includes conventional fluidized bed boilers and steam turbine technology. The planned fuel supply will primarily be a mixture of forest harvest residues, chipped pulpwood, and waste materials from sawmills. There are no plans to use any fossil fuels. With respect to carbon emissions, biomass power generation is generally deemed carbon neutral.
OPC is the nation's largest power supply cooperative and serves 38 Electric Membership Corporations that together provide electricity to 4.1 million Georgians.
Tom Smith, OPC's president and chief executive officer, stated, "We're pleased to find an environmentally friendly way to help meet some of our members' growing demand for electricity. OPC's members continue to grow and have an increasing need for additional power."
OPC is one of a growing number of companies planning on biomass to fuel relatively large, electric generating facilities in the Southeast. Last month, Georgia Power submitted a request to the Georgia Public Service Commission for approval to convert an aging, coal-fired unit at its Mitchell Generating Plant in Georgia to use wood wastes. The modified unit would use a direct-fire, stoker technology for a design capacity of 96 MW.
Also in August, the Austin City Council approved a 20-year, power purchase agreement (PPA) with Nacogdoches Power LLC for the electricity generated from a 100-MW facility using a fluidized bed design and fueled with woody biomass. The project site is in Nacogdoches County, Texas.
Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) is also discussing a similar, 100-MW project with Nacogdoches Power LLC that could be constructed at the existing Deerhaven Generating Station near Gainesville, Florida.
