Canada's Largest Wind Farm Nears Commercial Operations

LCG, October 31, 2008--Canadian Hydro Developers, Inc. (Canadian Hydro) announced yesterday the official opening of the Melancthon EcoPower? Centre a wind project with a electric generating capacity of 199.5 MW. The wind farm is located northwest of Toronto in Melancthon and Amaranth Townships of Ontario.

Phase I of the project provided 67.5 MW capacity and commenced commercial operations in March 2006. Construction on Phase II began last fall, and Canadian Hydro expects to achieve commercial operations in November of this year. Phase II will add 132 MW of capacity to the Melancthon EcoPower? Centre.

The Ontario Power Authority will purchase all of the power generated, together with all of the Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), from the EcoPower? Centre through a 20-year supply contract.

Phase II of the wind farm resulted from a successful proposal to the Ontario Ministry of Energy that was approved in November 2005. Phase II is one of nine renewable energy projects totaling 975 MW of electric generating capacity that was approved at that time by Ontario as part of an effort to develop renewable power that would enable the planned closure of existing, coal-fired plants.
