LCG, December 30, 2025--Duke Energy announced today its submission of an early site permit (ESP) application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The site is near the Belews Creek Steam Station in Stokes County, North Carolina. The submittal follows two years of work at the site, and the announcement states that the submittal is part of Duke Energy's strategic, on-going commitment to evaluate new nuclear generation options to reliably meet the growing electricity needs of its customers while reducing costs and risks.

Georgia EPD Issues Draft Permits for Proposed Coal-fired Power Plant in Georgia
LCG, August 26, 2009--POWER4Georgians, a coalition of Georgia electric membership cooperatives (EMCs), announced yesterday that the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) issued draft permits for their proposed coal-fired, power plant in Georgia. The Georgia EPD issued drafts of the air permit, the surface water withdrawal permit, the groundwater withdrawal permit, and the water discharge permit.
The proposed power station, Plant Washington, would be an 850-MW, electric generating station located on a 1,600-acre site in Washington County, Georgia. The project incorporates supercritical technology to improve efficiency and better enable reduced emissions.
