EPA Announces Proposed Rule Action to Revise ELG's and Support Reliable, Affordable Coal-fired Power Plants

LCG, May 14, 2026--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced today that it is proposing a rule to revise wastewater limits, known as effluent limitations guidelines (ELG), for steam electric power plants that will help improve grid reliability and lower electricity prices while continuing to support clean and safe water resources. If finalized, the EPA's proposal is estimated to reduce electricity generation costs by as much as $1.1 billion annually, which could provide cost-savings to American consumers.

DOE Awards $94 Million to Eight American Companies to Accelerate SMR Deployments and Develop Supply Chain

LCG, May 14, 2026--The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the selection of eight companies to support the near-term deployment of advanced light-water small modular reactors (SMRs) in the United States. The DOE states that awardees will collectively receive more than $94 million in Federal cost-shared funding to spur additional Gen III+ SMR deployments by addressing key gaps that have hindered the domestic nuclear industry in licensing, supply chain, and site preparation.

DOE Award on Dynamic Simulation Tools and Measurement-Based Control

LCG, Sept. 20, 2012 - LCG Consulting (LCG) of Los Altos, California, is a part of the consortium organized by Michigan State University, which is recently awarded a $1.5 million grant by the Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability under DOE Advanced Modeling Grid Research Program.

The project team -- Michigan State University, University of Illinois-Chicago, Florida State University Center for Advanced Power Systems, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Southern California Edison, and LCG Consulting -- will develop a Lyapunov function based remedial action screening (L-RAS) tool that uses real-time data. This approach is expected to supports selection of appropriate remedial actions that are most likely to result in stabilizing trajectories.

For this project, LCG Consulting will provide high level advisory services in the areas of electric system modeling, develop and implement a user interface to L-RAS as well as develop and run scenarios using its proprietary UPLAN models to support the team modeling efforts.

The DOE Advanced Modeling Grid Research Program leverages scientific research in mathematics for application to power system models and software tools. It is envisioned that the selected projects will result in a new class of decision support tools that will simulate dynamic events and help inform operators on real-time conditions to maintain stability.
