LCG, April 24, 2025--Exxon Mobil Corporation (ExxonMobil) announced yesterday an agreement with Calpine Corporation (Calpine) to transport and permanently store up to 2 million metric tons per annum (MTA) of CO2 from Calpine’s Baytown Energy Center, a natural gas-fired facility located near Houston, Texas. This is part of Calpine’s Baytown Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project that is designed to add CCS for the facility’s CO2 emissions. The Calpine facility could then provide a 24/7 supply of low-carbon electricity to the Texas grid plus steam to nearby industrial facilities.

DOE Award on Dynamic Simulation Tools and Measurement-Based Control
LCG, Sept. 20, 2012 - LCG Consulting (LCG) of Los Altos, California, is a part of the consortium organized by Michigan State University, which is recently awarded a $1.5 million grant by the Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability under DOE Advanced Modeling Grid Research Program.
The project team -- Michigan State University, University of Illinois-Chicago, Florida State University Center for Advanced Power Systems, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Southern California Edison, and LCG Consulting -- will develop a Lyapunov function based remedial action screening (L-RAS) tool that uses real-time data. This approach is expected to supports selection of appropriate remedial actions that are most likely to result in stabilizing trajectories.
For this project, LCG Consulting will provide high level advisory services in the areas of electric system modeling, develop and implement a user interface to L-RAS as well as develop and run scenarios using its proprietary UPLAN models to support the team modeling efforts.
The DOE Advanced Modeling Grid Research Program leverages scientific research in mathematics for application to power system models and software tools. It is envisioned that the selected projects will result in a new class of decision support tools that will simulate dynamic events and help inform operators on real-time conditions to maintain stability.
About LCG Consulting: With 30 years of experience, LCG Consulting is a pioneer and market leader in modeling the competitive energy market.
