LCG, May 8, 2025--The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Board of Directors approved SPP’s proposed Expedited Resource Adequacy Study (ERAS) at its May 6 meeting. SPP developed the new ERAS in collaboration with its stakeholders in response to the growing need to add new generating resources before the region’s generating capacity is outpaced by its electricity demands. ERAS is intended to be a one-time, expedited study process designed to significantly accelerate the addition of new power generation facilities to the grid and address concerns about the near term ability to maintain the affordable and reliable electric service that consumers expect.

Sabal Trail Pipeline Achieves Commercial Operations
LCG, July 5, 2017--Sabal Trail Transmission, LLC (Sabal Trail), a joint venture of Spectra Energy Partners, NextEra Energy, Inc., and Duke Energy, announced yesterday that on July 3, 2017, it placed into commercial service its natural gas pipeline system and facilities from Alexander City, Alabama, to the Central Florida Hub near Kissimmee, Florida.
The new pipeline provides 400,000 dekatherms per day of firm transportation to Florida Power & Light (FPL) in time for them to meet their peak cooling season. Additionally, Duke Energy Florida will accept 300,000 dekatherms of firm delivery daily once its 1,640-MW Citrus County combined-cycle natural gas plant is ready to receive natural gas.
The 515-mile Sabal Trail interstate pipeline project begins in Alabama on the Transco pipeline system and extends through southern Georgia and terminates at a central Florida pipeline hub near Intercession City.
The natural gas pipeline will have the capacity to deliver approximately 1.1 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/day) to the Southeast U.S. once approved future compression expansions occur.
The President and Chairman of the Board of Spectra Energy Partners stated, "Sabal Trail has successfully navigated a rigorous environmental permitting process over the past four years while working with landowners and key stakeholders to construct this new pipeline system. With the completion of this project, Florida Power & Light and Duke Energy will realize needed firm natural gas transportation services to meet their power generation requirements. We are pleased to reach this critical milestone and serve our customers in the Southeast U.S."
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a certificate of public convenience and necessity (CPCN) for the Sabal Trail and Florida Southeast Connection pipelines on February 2, 2016 that authorized the companies to build and operate the pipelines.
