LCG, September 16, 2025--Southwest Power Pool’s (SPP) Board of Directors today announced that the Board approved a process to facilitate the connection of large users of electricity to the power grid while continuing to support energy needs for the entire region. SPP's new process is designed to incorporate transmission service, generation, load interconnection and other relevant reliability studies into a single framework that enables timely, informed decision-making and action.

LCG, September 15, 2025--Longroad Energy announced today the financial close of 1000 Mile Solar, its 300 MWac (400 MWdc) solar project in Yoakum County, Texas. Longroad Energy finalized a long-term offtake agreement with Meta late last year in the form of an Environmental Attributes Purchase Agreement, which includes a financial settlement arrangement for the entire energy output of 1000 Mile Solar.

AWEA Issues Third Quarter 2017 Market Report
LCG, November 3, 2017--The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) recently released its new U.S. Wind Industry Third Quarter 2017 Market Report. AWEA reports new wind turbine installations have added 534 MW of electric generating capacity during the third quarter, bringing year-to-date installations to a total of 2,892 MW. There are now 84,944 MW of installed wind capacity in the U.S., with over 52,000 wind turbines operating in 41 states plus Guam and Puerto Rico.
The third quarter wind turbine installations were primarily in two states: Texas, with 402 MW of new installed capacity, and Indiana, with 100 MW of new capacity. Texas continues to lead the U.S., with a total installed capacity of 21,450 MW. Iowa is a distant second, with 6,974 MW, followed by Oklahoma (6,645 MW), California (5,561 MW) and Kansas (5,110 MW).
Three wind turbine companies dominated the installations. GE Renewable Energy, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy and Vestas installed a combined 98% of facilities commissioned during the first three quarters of 2017.
AWEA estimates that there are now 13,759 MW under construction and 15,875 MW in advanced development. The combined 29,634 MW represents a 27% year-over-year increase. Moreover, project developers announced 638 MW in new construction activity.
Utilities announced new plans to develop and own 3,040 MW of wind capacity during the third quarter, including AEP's 2,000 MW Wind Catcher project in Oklahoma and Alliant Energy's 500 MW New Wind II project in Iowa.
