LCG, October 16, 2026--The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) announced on Thursday its new proposal to revise and accelerate its review of air quality effects for proposed natural gas projects under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The draft policy statement highlights revisions designed to (i) avoid unnecessary delays and duplicative analysis and (ii) deliver greater regulatory certainty and a streamlined path forward for project applicants.

LCG, October 14, 2026--American Electric Power (AEP) today announced plans for a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google, under which AEP will invest approximately $4 billion to advance a new 702-MW fuel cell generation project located near Cheyenne, Wyoming. Google will acquire power from Cheyenne Fuel Cell, LLC, which is approximately 92 percent owned and controlled by AEP and 8 percent owned by funds advised by Basalt Infrastructure Partners, LLP. AEP and its partners plan to start construction this year and to be fully operational by the end of 2028.

Alliant Energy to Install More Wind Farms in Iowa
LCG, April 19, 2018--Alliant Energy's Iowa utility subsidiary, Interstate Power and Light Company (IPL), received approval to increase its wind expansion program from the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB). Through this expansion, combined with existing wind farms and market purchases, the company expects wind to provide approximately one-third of its total electric generating capacity in Iowa by the end of 2020.
Alliant Energy received approval in 2016 to add up to 500 MW of wind energy, and the company requested a similar expansion from the IUB again in 2017. Alliant Energy estimates the combined projects would represent a $1.8 billion investment and add up to 1,000 MW of new wind generation in Iowa by 2020.
"Our wind energy initiatives help keep rates competitive, enhance our environmental stewardship and drive economic growth in our communities," said the president of IPL. "Wind energy is a major part of our transition to a clean energy future."
This spring, crews began construction on the first of several wind farms, starting with the 300-MW Upland Prairie Wind Farm, a project acquired from Apex Clean Energy last October. Later this year, construction is expected to start on the 170-MW English Farms Wind Farm, which was acquired from Tradewind Energy.
Alliant Energy filed an application for advance ratemaking principles on August 3, 2017. The company continues to review the written decision order from the IUB. The IUB order terms include: (i) the ratemaking principles apply to any new wind facility constructed as part of IPL's New Wind Project that qualifies for 100 percent of the federal Production Tax Credits, regardless of its location in Iowa, up to 500 MW; (ii) a cost cap of $1,780/kW, including allowance for funds used during construction (AFUDC) and transmission costs; and (iii) ILP is permitted to include in Iowa rates the actual cost of the wind project up to the cost cap without need to establish prudence, but required to establish the prudence of any cost in excess of the cost cap.
