Enron's Bankruptcy Plan Filed
LCG, July 11, 2003--Enron filed a bankruptcy reorganization plan that the company's acting chief executive, Stephen Cooper, said represented a distribution of "100% of the economic value of Enron."The plan will account for 300 classes of creditors, which have claims against 173 affiliates included in the filing for bankruptcy protection. A majority of the members of each class will need to approve the plan, and a vote of two-thirds of the total dollar amount will have to give its backing. Cooper said that a number of creditors and the court-appointed examiner representing Enron North America creditors have voiced their support. The claims creditors say they are owed equal $67 billion, although what they will receive may be between 14.4 cents and 18.3 cents per dollar, much less than creditors in most bankruptcies receive. The payouts will be made 70% in cash, according to Cooper.
