LCG, June 23, 2025--The Governor of New York today directed the New York Power Authority (NYPA) to develop and construct an advanced nuclear power plant in upstate New York to deliver zero-emission power that supports a reliable and affordable electric grid. NYPA will lead the effort to develop at least one new nuclear energy facility with a combined capacity of at least one gigawatt (GW) of electricity, either alone or in partnership with private entities. The directive builds on the Governor’s 2025 State of the State to develop nuclear energy plans in New York.

Edison and Ford Announce Plans to Develop Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles
LCG, July 10, 2007--Edison International, the parent company of Southern California Edison (SCE), and Ford Motor Company yesterday announced their collaboration to examine the future of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) as part of a complete vehicle, home and grid energy system. Edison and Ford plan to examine the potential benefits of PHEV use, including enhanced energy security, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, lower fuel costs and more cost-effective use of the nation's electricity grid.
SCE operates the nation's largest fleet of electric vehicles and the nationally recognized Electric Vehicle Technical Center in Pomona, California, where advanced battery technologies are tested to explore new applications of power and technology. Ford introduced the world's first hybrid sport-utility vehicle.
As a transportation fuel, electricity is 50 percent to 75 percent less expensive than the equivalent cost of a gallon of gasoline, according to Ford. However, PHEVs currently are not generally in use because of the high cost of advanced batteries.
Ford and SCE will explore whether these advanced batteries have other uses that could reduce their cost to consumers. For example, owners could charge their vehicles in the evening when the electricity prices are lower and use that energy during peak hours of the day, when electricity prices are high. Advanced batteries also could store energy from rooftop solar panels more efficiently. Furthermore, as such applications grow, Ford and SCE believe a secondary market could develop for the value present in used plug-in hybrid electric vehicle batteries at the end of their vehicle life.
