LCG, September 3, 2026--Fervo Energy earlier this week announced a 396-MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google to enable the continued development of the Cape Station enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) GeoCluster, located in southwest Utah. Under the agreement, Google will purchase carbon-free, 24/7 electricity designed to serve as a foundational building block for a potential data center in Utah. The facility is expected to come online in 2028.

Midwest Plants To Be Idled in Illinois Next Year
LCG, Dec. 4, 2002--Plants owned by Midwest Generation, a unit of Edison International's Edison Mission Energy, will be partially shut down during 2003, removing about 1,400 megawatts from the market, according to a company spokesman.The plants might have operated next year if Exelon Corp., which has significant Midwest Generation capacity under contract, had not decided to curtail its purchases from the company. Power prices have tumbled in Illinois, where the two plants in question are located. Exelon is still buying 4,739 megawatts from Midwest Generation, but will save about $130 million in 2003 compared with related costs in 2002.Two units will be shut down at the Will County plant, reducing coal-fired output by 620 megawatts, while another two 550-megawatt, gas-fired units at the Collins Station plant will be taken offline. Remaining units at both plants will continue to operate. Midwest Generation does not know at the present time whether the units being taken offline will be brought into operation again in 2004, or whether the shutdowns could last longer.Midwest Generation acquired the plants from Exelon, which owns Commonwealth Edison Co., the Chicago utility.
