LCG, April 24, 2025--Exxon Mobil Corporation (ExxonMobil) announced yesterday an agreement with Calpine Corporation (Calpine) to transport and permanently store up to 2 million metric tons per annum (MTA) of CO2 from Calpine’s Baytown Energy Center, a natural gas-fired facility located near Houston, Texas. This is part of Calpine’s Baytown Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Project that is designed to add CCS for the facility’s CO2 emissions. The Calpine facility could then provide a 24/7 supply of low-carbon electricity to the Texas grid plus steam to nearby industrial facilities.

LCG, April 21, 2025--NovaSource Power Services ("NovaSource") recently announced that it has partnered with Doral Renewables and has been selected as the Operations and Maintenance ("O&M") and Generator Operator ("GO") for the Mammoth Solar Project, one of the largest agrivoltaics facilities in the United States.

U.K. Opens Way for Large Increases in Windpower
LCG, July 24, 2003--An increase in offshore wind generation is being sought by the U.K. government, which announced that invitations will be made to bid on options to lease sites that could see the installation of 1,500 turbines over 100 meters in height.Previous proposals regarding electricity generation from wind had represented one-fourth as much capacity as the current one. The announcement by the trade and industry secretary indicated that construction could create 20,000 jobs related to construction and engineering, and that the plans would enable progress on reaching a 10 per cent minimum requirement for renewable power by 2010.Bidders for the sites, in three coastal areas up to 10 kilometers from shore, may include oil companies and power providers such as PowerGen, Innogy, Scottish and Southern & Scottish Power. While wind developers and Greenpeace, the environmental group, heralded the significant boost in support for wind technology, Vince Cable, a Liberal Democrat, noted that a variety of renewable technologies, including tidal and solar power, should be supported through regulatory means, and that a single source should not be the entire focus of such development.
