Gamesa and FirstEnergy Move Forward with Allegheny Ridge Wind Farm

LCG, March 28, 2006--FirstEnergy announced yesterday that it has executed a 23-year purchase agreement with Gamesa Energy USA for the power generated by the Allegheny Ridge Wind Farm, which is located in Pennsylvania and currently under development. Phase I of the project will have a generating capacity of 80 MW and is scheduled for completion in early 2007.

The wind farm site is in Cambria and Blair counties. Phase I of the project includes 40 turbines, each with a capacity of 2 MW. The state Department of Environmental Protection recently approved the erosion and sediment control plan, which allows for construction to commence.
Gamesa Energy USA is a wholly owned subsidiary of Gamesa Group, an international company based in Spain that is active in renewable energy and in the design and manufacturing of wind turbines.

Earlier this month, Pennsylvania Governor Edward Rendell announced that Gamesa will invest $34 million to open three new manufacturing centers in Pennsylvania to construct the wind mill blades and towers and to assemble the nacelles, which house the wind turbines. The new plants will be in addition to the blade plant Gamesa is building in Cambria County, near the Allegheny Ridge Wind Farm site.
